ACT STAGE II CLUTCH Impressions

Finally! I got my upgrade clutch installed! Apparently, not a moment too soon. As you can see from the pic below, my friction facings on my stock clutch disc were down to the rivets! Yikes! This is after 78K miles of driving.

The mechanic said my worn out clutch was why my clutch pedal pressure was getting stiff and my left leg was getting good exercise! hehe Now, pushing the clutch is smooooth. I love it! It is touchier though. On my stock clutch, there was a lot more play in the pedal before it really bit. With a bit of practice, I doubt it'll be a problem. Launching, however, measures a perfect 10 on the grin-meter. As I right this, I'm still smiling :)

I asked two separate mechanics about the break-in period. Since this was an organic rather than a metallic clutch disc, both told me there is no break-in period. Still, paranoid as I am, I'll probably take it easy this week (with the exception of that one launch...curse temptation! :P)

Here's a pic of the pressure plate. Notice the wear made by the release bearing on the diaphragm spring release levers.

I wish I remembered to bring my camera with me to the mechanic's shop so I could have taken pics of the install. Oh well, it was fun watching. Funny, I had imagined the max's flywheel to be much bigger for some reason...hehe...though I should have known based on the size of the pressure plate.
